Hive Cards and Counters
Lay out the hives 1-10, in the correct order. Count out the bees and place them below the corresponding number.
As a challenge, mix up and arrange the number cards so that they are out of sequence and have the child count out the correct number of bees for each number card.
Encouraging the child to lay out the bees in pairs (creating two columns), can later be used to introduce the concept of odd and even numbers. If the number is odd, the pairs will not be equal, while an even number will have equal pairs.
